Lawyer, family officer, advisory board member and entrepreneur
Prof Dr Maximilian A. Werkmüller has been advising entrepreneurial families in Germany and abroad for more than 25 years.
As a lawyer, he specialises in the areas of inheritance law, tax law and company law; He specialises in tax-optimised asset succession planning and the execution of wills for complex estates; Maximilian Werkmüller has also been working as a consultant for medium-sized entrepreneurial families for several years – in this capacity he advises them on matters of ownership strategy and private finance.
Prof Werkmüller completed his legal training at the universities of Trier, Bonn and Münster. The bank HSBC Trinkaus & Burkhardt hired him in 1998 as in-house counsel for inheritance and foundation matters; In 2007, he became a member of the extended management team and was promoted to Head of Wealth Management, while successfully building a multi-family office platform within the bank and being responsible for its business development. In 2011, the “C&A” founding family Brenninkmeyer asked him to take over the restructuring and management of their German family office; Since 2019, he has been a partner in a law firm in Düsseldorf that specialises in tax structuring and defence advice; Maximilian Werkmüller has a second location in Zurich, where he works as a Senior Of Counsel at LindemannLaw advises Swiss and international clients.
Prof Werkmüller has also held the Chair of General Business Administration, Finance and Family Office Management at Allensbach University in Constance since June 2018; He is actively involved in teaching and research there. His German-language handbook for practitioners, “Family Office Management”, is regarded as a standard work and is now in its fourth edition.
